Two people are dead after a crash during a police pursuit in Asheville, over the weekend. The Asheville Police Department says an officer tried to make a traffic stop on a Dodge Challenger, early Saturday morning.
The vehicle reportedly matched the description of the suspect vehicle that has fled the scene of an assault in Asheville's downtown area. A chase ensued and after officers lost sight of the vehicle, they later found it at the bottom of an embankment.
Two people were found trapped in the car and they both died on scene, as officers attempted to render first aid. The driver has been identified as 32 year old, Dariann Chantel Waters and the passenger has been identified as, 30 year old Maurice Dijon Jones.
The crash remains under investigation by the Asheville PD and the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office
