One person is dead following a 3 car collision in the Upstate. The crash happened around 4:30 Monday afternoon on Hwy 221 near Cherokee Circle, about 5 miles North of Spartanburg. The Highway Patrol says that the driver of a Honda SUV entered Hwy 221 from a private driveway and struck Lexus Sedan that was traveling Southbound. The impact of that collision caused the Lexus to cross the centerline and hit a Chevy SUV. A passenger in the Lexus and the driver of the Chevy were both injured and transported to Spartanburg Regional. The driver of the Lexus died in the crash. The driver of the Honda was cited for failure to yield.
In a separate wreck late Tuesday night, The Highway Patrol is investigating the Upstate's third vehicle-versus-pedestrian fatality in the past 48 hours. The latest happened about 11:00 PM in Spartanburg County. Troopers say the still-unidentified victim was struck by a Lexus sedan on Highway 29 near Kent Street east of Welford. So far no charges have been filed against the driver .
