For the second straight day an autopsy is scheduled in Laurens County on the body of a drowning victim recovered from the same recreation area on the rain-swollen Saluda River at Ware Shoals.
A TV News crew was interviewing local officials about the risk of swimming in the river when rescuers arrived to search for a teenager who had disappeared in the same area where a man drowned on a Memorial day outing at the newly developed Irving Pitts Park.
The body of 19-year-old Bernard Dimitri Mason of Greenwood was recovered shortly after 6:30PM Tuesday, just over an hour after he was reported missing. Ware Shoals police say he was found in less than six feet of water abut 20 feet from the river bank.
The man who drowned Monday, now identified as 43-year-old Juan Diaz Luna, had been swept away by the strong current and trapped beneath some rocks about eight feet deep.
