Two men found dead at Upstate motel identified

GCCO
Greenville County Coroner's Office

The two men whose bodies were found in a West Greenville motel room Wednesday may have died of a drug overdose, but Sheriff's Office homicide investigators are no longer on the case.

A 9-1-1 call from the manager of the Budget Inn on Bruce Road brought deputies to the motel late Wednesday morning. The bodies of two men now identified as 33-year-old Alvaro Hinojosa and 43-year-old Jose Gomez were found in a room whose plate glass window had been broke from the inside.

A third person, who has not been identified suffered what were called minor injuries. Some of the housekeeping staff had heard shouts for help coming from the room.

The cause of death is still listed as "unknown," pending results of toxicology tests. However, the Greenville County Coroner's Office says there is no evidence that foul play was involved, and the Sheriff's Office has closed the case.
