The trial of a Union woman charged with setting a house fire that left her child dead, is set to begin this week. Police in Union say Carlene Ratcliffe set fire to a house there with her six year old daughter inside, back in November of 2020.

The child's grandmother returned home during the fire but was unsuccessful in trying to save the child. The six year old suffered severe burns and died from smoke inhalation.

Ratcliffe reportedly left the home after setting it ablaze. She's charged with murder, homicide by child abuse and arson. The ATF and SLED Arson Unit also assisted in the investigation.
