Upstate activist urging schools to add metal detectors

An Upstate activist is pushing for schools to implement metal detectors. Traci Fant, the Organizer of Freedom Fighters Upstate is urging area schools districts to add the detectors, in the wake of the fatal shooting of a student at Tanglewood Middle School in Greenville Thursday. The tragic death of 12 year old , Jamari Cortez Jackson has brought the issue back to the forefront.

Fant first started petitioning area schools to add metal detectors in 2016 and brought the issue to the Greenville County School District in 2018. At that time, the school district declined to Fant's proposal. Fant is once again pushing for the district to implement metal detectors, her petition on the matter currently has over three thousand signatures.
