An Upstate Deputy who was critically injured injured in the line of duty has been named the recipient of a prestigious statewide award. Corporal Lucas Watts of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office has been named the State's Deputy Of The Year by the South Carolina Sheriffs Association.
Watts was selected after a vote by sheriffs from around the state. Last November, Watts was shot in the line of duty and spent 6 months in various healthcare facilities before returning home.
Watts was unable to attend the ceremony as he is still recovering from his injuries. His brother and fellow officer Logan Watts accepted the award on his behalf.
