An Upstate man is in custody after a stabbing incident that killed his mother and injured her boyfriend. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says 29 year old, Marcel Larville Alston of Spartanburg has been arrested on charges of Murder, Attempted Murder, and a Weapons Violation.

Deputies say Alston stabbed his mother and her boyfriend at the Southern Pines Apartment Complex early Thursday morning. The Sheriff's Office says Alston's mother later died from her injuries, her boyfriend is expected to survive. Alston was taken into custody without incident Thursday afternoon. Investigators say his motive is still unclear.
