An Upstate man will spend the next 15 years behind bars after shooting into the home of his former girlfriend, nearly three years ago. The 7th Circuit Solicitors Office says, 41year old Herbert Frances Barnhill III of Gaffney plead guilty to a list of charges in court, Monday.

The charges stem from an incident in October of 2020 in which Barnhill fired rounds from a handgun inside the home of his ex-girlfriend after the relationship had ended. His former girlfriend named in court documents as Melissa Hammond, was not home at the time of the shooting, however her child was.

Court records say ,the child was burned by a projectile that landed on the bed. Barnhill has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for aggravated assault. He also received concurrent sentences for a weapons violation, stalking, shooting into a dwelling and other charges.

A permanent restraining order  was issued against Barnhill, as part of the plea deal.
