A Spartanburg County man has been sentenced to prison after strangling another man at an Upstate hospital. The 7th Circuit Solicitor's Office says, 36 year old Kenneth Scott Blake of Cowpens pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted murder on Tuesday.
The charge came from an incident in April of 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. Court documents say, Blake strangled his roommate in the facility's Behavioral Health Unit. Prosecutors claim Blake stopped strangling the victim and hot back into his bed like nothing happened, when a nurse began to come by the room.
Blake has previous convictions for domestic violence and possession with intent to distribute meth, among other crimes. He has been sentenced to 16 years in prison, he'll have to require 85% of that time before being eligible for early release.
Assistant Solicitor Spenser Smith said “Were it not for the Spartanburg Regional employee entering the room to serve breakfast, the outcome would have been much worse.”
