An Upstate police officer was killed in the line of duty, Wednesday morning. Officials say, that an Easley Police Officer was killed after responding to a call for assistance on the railroad tracks along East Main Street, around 5AM.
All trains were then asked to stop moving around that area. SLED has been called into investigate the incident. Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis expressed his condolences in a press conference he held Wednesday on an unrelated matter.
The fallen officer has been identified as 22 year old Matthew Hare. The Pickens County Coroner's Office says Officer Hare was getting a suicidal person off of the tracks when he was hit by the train. The coroner's office and SLED are still investigating the incident.
