An Upstate Sheriff says a Deputy involved shooting was justified. In late December, Deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office shot an armed suspect after they say he fired a gun at them. The Sheriff's Office responded to a home on McCall Road in Simpsonville on a report that 38 year old, Matthew Snyder was suicidal.
Snyder was located in the woods near the home and a standoff ensued. Deputies say Snyder fired at them and moved the gun in a threatening manner and they then shot him. He died at an area hospital from injuries suffered in the shooting.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis says an internal investigation determined the shooting was justified. The SLED investigation into the shooting is still ongoing. A briefing video that contains the Bodycam footage of the incident can be found on the GCSO's Youtube Page and is dated February 9th, 2022.
