Investigators say that Pickens County teenager airlifted straight to the Burn Care Center in Augusta from the scene of his critical injury Monday night was just trying to make himself a sandwich.
Easley Police and the Fire Chief say the fifteen year old boy was preparing a grilled cheese sandwich in the kitchen of his family's apartment on Wallace Drive when grease that splashed onto his shirt was ignited by the gas stove's flame.
First responders who reached the young victim about 6:30 treated him on the scene until a helicopter arrived to fly him directly to the Augusta hospital. Doctors there say he suffered critical burns to his upper body.
