
After a tumultuous last few months, an Upstate police department now has a new chief. Officials in the Spartanburg County town of Pacolet have voted to approve the hiring of Joseph Hawes, as their new police chief.

He has been serving in an interim capacity since being appointed in December. Hawes stepped in for former Chief John Alexander when he and other officers resigned in September. The officer said upon leaving that the town had made their jobs impossible.
Hawes brings over two decades of law enforcement experience in South Carolina to the position. Officials with the town of Pacolet says that Hawes has been spearheading efforts to hire new officers for the department.
