An Upstate woman's family says she has a long road to anything like recovery, from a dog attack so vicious, it left doctors no choice but to amputate both of her arms. Kyleen Waltman is in ICU following the double amputation, removal of her colon and faces still more surgery in the days ahead.

She was airlifted to the hospital Monday from a rural road outside Honea Path. She was walking from a friend's house to her mother's home on Ball Road when she encountered the three dogs. The mauling was so relentless a man who heard her screams had to fire a gun into the air to frighten the dogs away.

Doctors say they have never seen a worst case. The dogs were captured and taken to the Anderson County animal control facility where they're likely to be euthanized. The Abbeville County sheriff says charges are likely against the owner. Waltman's friends and family have started a go-fund-me page for her. However, her mother says what they really need are prayers ,telling reporters Kyleen has just become a grandmother, but can never hold the child.
