The charges stem from a fatal shooting in Inman that happened in November of 2020. The victim, 26 year old Derambez Deante Morgan of Greenville died after being shot multiple times. Porter was arrested while trying to the flee the vehicle that Morgan was shot in. The murder weapons was found in his possession when he was taken into custody.

Porter claimed self defense in court saying that the two fought over the gun and went off striking Morgan. However, 13th Circuit Solicitor Barry Barnette told the jury, that the forensic evidence didn't match that narrative. Porter has been sentenced to life in the South Carolina Dept. Of Corrections.
