Incumbents remained strong in yesterday’s municipal elections in the Upstate. Incumbent Knox White won reelection in Greenville’s mayoral election, continuing his nearly 30-year stent in office after his first Democratic challenger in 16 years, Michelle Shain, conceded Tuesday night.

Greenville City Council also saw incumbent Dorothy Dowe winning reelection for the at-large seat after challenger Randall Fowler conceded in a statement Tuesday night as well.

In Simpsonville, incumbent Paul Shewmaker also won reelection.

In Spartanburg, the main item was the vote on whether to extend the penny sales tax referendum for another six years.

The vote on that item found a majority in favor. The extension begins in May and is estimated to bring in roughly $478 million that will go to various transportation infrastructure projects.
