There's been much talk about school safety around America and here in the Upstate. Which the subject has become much more prevalent in recent years and even earlier this year with a mass school shooting in Texas. The Greenville County School District is discussing adding a system at its entry doors that would help detect weapons. Now, another Upstate District is taking measures to increase the safety of its students and faculty, as my colleague Matthew Causey, wrote about here on our website on Thursday. Laurens School District 55 is mandating transparent backpacks for the upcoming school year. In addition, District 55 says all bags will be subject to search. The District says there will be some exceptions made to those mandates, allowing students to carry athletic equipment, band instruments, medications, wallets etc. in non-transparent bags. Do you think this measure will make Upstate schools safer? Let us know, below.
