A Western North Carolina man will spend at least the next 25 years behind bars after being convicted of child sex crime charges. 44 year old, Christopher Vance Sheridan of Candler was found guilty on multiple counts of statutory rape and other charges, after a trial that lasted a week.
Court records show that the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office began investigating Sheridan after a victim told their mother that he sexually assaulted them in 2018. The case dead-ended when the victim recanted her statement.
Then in 2021, the case was re-opened after the original victim again came forward after she spoke with a friend who was victimized by Sheridan.
The exact length of his prison sentence has not been determined, but Sheridan faces a minimum of 25 years with a possible max sentence of 35 years.
