On January 26, 2024, around 10:30pm, Officials said Anita Pecora of Simpsonville was stopped on 385 near exit 29, Georgia Road. A Good Samaritan driving a Toyota Highlander stopped to help her.

Warrants say Hawkins struck the Highlander from behind with his Ram pick-up truck, pinning Anita Pecora between the Highlander and her own vehicle. The collision severed one of her legs and nearly severed the other. Hawkins drove away from the scene to his home.

He was arrested January 31, 204 after Pecora died in the hospital. At the time of this report, jail records show bond has not been set for Hawkins.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the Simpsonville Police Department at 864-967-9536.
