Woman sentenced to quarter century following fatal hit and run

An Upstate woman is set to spend the next 25 years behind bars. 32 year old, Veronica Dawn Tharp was sentenced in a Greenville County Court Tuesday, following a fatal hit and run that killed a woman and her dog. Tharp entered guilty please to charges of Fatal Hit & Run, Reckless Homicide and 1st Degree Burglary.

The charges stem from an incident in May of last year, in which police say Tharp was driving a stolen SUV when she crossed two lanes of traffic on Augusta Street, drove up on the sidewalk, hitting and killing 38 year old, Brittany Lawson and the dog she was walking. Police say, Tharp then fled the scene of the crash.

She received a 25 year sentence for the Fatal Hit and Run, another 25 year sentence for 1st Degree Burglary and 10 years for Reckless Homicide, with the sentences set to run concurrently.
