Woman suffers severe burns, "Good Samaritan" puts fire out

What police have termed a "Good Samaritan" may have saved a woman's life, late last week in Western North Carolina. The Asheville Police Department says that a woman was set on fire, last Thursday.

Investigators believe she likely set fire to herself behind a building. A witness saw the woman burning and grabbed a fire extinguisher from a store nearby and put out the fire.


The 44 year old woman, was said to have suffered burns to 90% of her body. She was originally taken to Asheville's Mission Hospital and was then transferred to the Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.

The incident remains under investigation by the Asheville Police Department, no charges have been announced as of the time of this report.
