In this calendar year, there have been mass shootings around the country. In at least a couple of those instances, the shootings happened in states that do not have the death penalty. Earlier this year, a mass shooting happened in Buffalo, New York. The shooter was taken into custody and New York does not have the death penalty. Earlier this week, a shooter identified as Robert "Bobby" Crimo killed 7 people and wounded many others in a shooting in a Chicago suburb. Crimo was taken into custody after the shooting, Illinois is another state that doesn't have the death penalty. I'm sure that I am not alone, in thinking that if those states had the death penalty it may have deterred the shooters from acting. It is worth noting that Texas is one of 27 states with the death penalty, but as we know that did not prevent the school shooting that killed over 20 people in Uvalde. So it brings up today's question, would the death penalty nationwide prevent or deter mass shootings? Let us know, below.
