(Walhalla, SC) An event that was scheduled to be held at Seneca High School this coming Sunday afternoon in recognition of National Faith and Blue Weekend is being cancelled due to weather concerns.

“The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms this weekend,” says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. “With the safety of our citizens and our law enforcement officers in mind, a decision has been made to cancel the event that was scheduled Sunday afternoon in the student parking lot at Seneca High School at 4pm for our local recognition of National Faith and Blue Weekend.”

Sheriff Crenshaw is asking for our citizens and congregations in houses of worship this weekend, as well as in the days and weeks to come, to pray for Oconee County citizens, law enforcement and public safety officers, the cities in Oconee County, the county itself and Oconee County communities as well as leaders on all levels of government.

“One part of our local recognition of National Faith and Blue weekend that has been successful is the generosity of our citizens and the faith community regarding the purchasing of gift cards for law enforcement officers in Oconee County,” says Sheriff Crenshaw.  “It appears as of right now that every certified law enforcement officer in the county will be receiving a gift card to a restaurant.  We are grateful to David Shirley, Director of Missions for the Beaverdam Baptist Association, and the staff at the Association Office for their assistance regarding the gift cards.”
