High level fundraising has raised the profile of a South Carolina politician. Senator Tim Scott has now become the second highest fundraiser in the U.S. Senate. Scott raised a reported 8.3 million in this year’s 3rd fundraising quarter. Since his nationally televised Speech responding to President Biden in April, Scott’s profile has skyrocketed.Over 80,000 donors have shown support for Scott in the 3rd quarter alone.
The only member of the Senate to raise more in this past quarter is Florida Democrat Val Demings, who reportedly raised 8.4 million. Scott is a heavy favorite to win his bid for re-election next year. His two current challengers are Krstyle Matthews, a State Representative from the low country and Spartanburg County Democratic Party Chair Angela Geter.
Scott’s best fundraising quarter prior to this came in Spring of 2013 when he raised just over 1 million. This quarter was about 8 times that amount.
