A Spartanburg High School student is facing expulsion after bringing an unloaded handgun to school.
His parent called the school yesterday, saying he was concerned his son might have brought a gun from home.
A District 7 spokesperson says a search of the student's locker turned up a small handgun.
It was not loaded and officials say he apparently didn't threaten anyone, but in line with policy the teen was arrested, charged with possession of a firearm on school property and recommended for expulsion.
A statement from District 7 Superintendent Jeff Stevens says, “We are extremely thankful that the father acted swiftly and proactively," calling it "an example of a parent and school staff working in partnership to protect our school community and to support the student.”
