At least 3,202 New York City residents have died from coronavirus, eclipsing the total number of deceased (2,977) from the 9/11 terrorist attacks. “Behind every one of those numbers is an individual," New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said after reporting that the state recorded 731 new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday--its deadliest day to date. That being said, the AP reports that New York's death toll seems to be leveling off due to social distancing. It was just one week ago that the national death toll barely eclipsed that of the 9/11 attacks, providing a staggering glimpse into how quickly the virus has spread.
