What better time to propose than getting your Super Bowl ring?
If you’re Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, there is none.
Mahomes proposed to longtime partner Brittany Matthews on Tuesday, giving her a ring on the same day he received one at the Chiefs’ official ceremony celebrating their Super Bowl victory against the San Francisco 49ers.
Mahomes and Matthews have a storied history together, having originally met when they were just teens. But since then, the two have evolved from high school sweethearts to fitness mogul power couple.
To celebrate their engagement, here are some of the best moments from their relationship.
Will you go to prom with me?
Mahomes and Matthews started dating in 10th grade at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, TX, according to Yahoo Sports. In 2013, Mahomes posted this pic of the two on prom night, captioning the post, “Best prom date a guy could ask for!! #prom2013 #bestfriend #greatnight.”
Draft day
Matthews was with Mahomes and his family when the Chiefs drafted him in the first round in 2017. “Joining the family #ChiefsKingdom,” Mahomes captioned an Instagram pic of the moment.

Every couple’s been here before. Mahomes and Matthews were pictured scrolling hard while sitting courtside next to each other while the Pelicans took on the Mavericks in Dallas in March, about a week before the COVID hit its first major inflection point and spurred shutdowns around the country.
Home for the holidays
This one is postcard-ready. Mahomes shared this sweet pic of himself and Matthews in December. “Merry Christmas to everyone from me and my fam!🎄🎄,” he captioned the photo.

Mahomes and Matthews celebrated big on the night of the Super Bowl, with the Chiefs quarterback picking his not-yet fiancee up into his arms and getting a big celebratory smooch after the game.
I’m going to Disney World!
Because you got to when you win the Super Bowl. Matthews posted these pics in February of her and Mahomes after the Chiefs’ big win. “I am so beyond proud of this dude and this team,” she started the caption, continuing, “all year it was about battling, amazing comebacks and overcoming an injury, and for that YOU DESERVE THIS, no better way to end it than at this Magical Place!!🥰❤️🏆.” Little did she know the celebration would really end in September in a major way.
Hook, line and sinker
Mahomes and Matthews are off the deep end for each other. She shared this pic of the two on a boat this summer, captioned simply “Smoochinnnn😘.”
She said yes!
And of course, the big proposal. After Matthews said “yes” to Mahomes, she posted these photos from the big night with a loving message about his devotion to their relationship during his team’s celebration. “On a day that was meant to celebrate you, you turned it into celebrating us,” she wrote Sept. 2. “It’s always us, it’s always you and me. The words you looked into my eyes and said to me at this moment, will NEVER leave my mind! You made this day perfect, you took my entire breath away and I could not have imagined anything better. I love you, forever and always! Cheers to spending our lifetime together and an inseparable bond🎉🥂💕.”
