Dr. Anthony Fauci has been working nonstop since the start of the coronavirus pandemic last March and that is not an exaggeration.
The nation’s leading infectious disease expert has been crucial in keeping Americans informed on the novel virus throughout the last year and has now revealed the extent of his “24/7” work schedule.
“I haven’t had a day off in 14 months, but other than that, I’m doing fine,” the 80-year-old said during an interview with Now This News.
“You just adapt yourself to it. The problem is too immense and there's too [many] implications. We've lost 560,000 people in America from this tragic pandemic.”
Fauci also stressed how he’s focused on his job and keeping people safe, rather than taking a well-deserved break.
“So I don't have any time to worry about how tired I am or how I’m feeling,” he added. “I’ll worry about that later.”
In addition to being the White House chief medical advisor, Fauci is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and sees patients at the National Institute of Health’s Clinical Center, reported CNBC.
In lieu of a vacation, Fauci previously disclosed he and his wife cope with the ongoing pandemic by walking over three miles a day.
“I used to say ‘run,’ but I don’t run very much anymore because at the end of the run, various parts of my body hurt so much,” he said in an interview last summer. “Power walking is very enjoyable and relaxing, and we look forward to it.”
