Deputies in Orange County, Fla. rescued a dog left locked in a hot car in a Walt Disney World parking lot, according to the sheriff’s department.

After a day of fun, Jerry Dana French was preparing to leave the Orlando theme park around 5 p.m. when she heard a dog barking inside a car in the Hollywood Studios parking lot. In a Facebook post, French recalled looking inside the vehicle and seeing an empty water bowl.

The dog had been locked in the car for at least five hours. French noted the 11:48 a.m. parking receipt in the vehicle, People magazine reported, and waited for help after calling park security for assistance.

“She looked right up into my eyes and said help,” French said on Facebook, according to a local journalist. I“ started to cry at this point, and security tried to get me to leave, but I just couldn’t.”

About an hour later, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and first responders with the Reedy Creek Fire Department freed the pup, who was in desperate need of water. Had the dog been left any longer, officials said it would have died within another hour.

“It’s people like ... the Disney parking team and first responders that make me have hope. Thank you, rescuers!” French said on Facebook.

Officials went inside the theme park to locate the dog’s owner, who they said left the resort after claiming the pup.

The sheriff’s department said it did not file charges against the dog owner.
