Your favorite pancakes are about to get flip’d!

While we always assumed IHOP was pretty casual in the first place, the beloved diner chain has cooked up a new “fast casual” side chain of joints called flip’d. (Why does everyone seem to hate capital letters these days?)

Technically named “flip’d by IHOP” and originally announced in 2019, the first concept restaurant is expected to open this summer.

Essentially a grab’n’go version of the famed pancake house, the COVID pandemic forced the company to reassess their opening plans.

“Since we originally announced flip’d in 2019, a lot has changed,” said Jay Johns, President of IHOP, in a statement.

“We wanted to ensure that we were evolving the concept to meet our guests’ needs. While we know there is a pent-up demand for a return to dining in restaurants, we anticipate that our delivery and takeout business is here to stay as consumer needs continue to shift and they seek out different ways to experience IHOP favorites.”

According to Thrillist, the company says, “the new brand aims to address the growing demand for made-to-order breakfast, lunch, and dinner that is convenient and fresh."

The look so far seems to be that of a stripped-down diner with a few stools, like something you might see in an airport. It will feature an all-day menu that juggles up the usual concerts of breakfast/lunch/dinner, various bowls, burritos, and of course, pancakes. Pre-order will be available too.

The first outpost of flip’d is set for New York City in July, then three more nationally, including Lawrence, Kansas and two in and around Columbus, Ohio.
