Billy Joel's long-time drummer Liberty DeVitto has just released a new memoir "Liberty: Life, Billy And The Pursuit Of Happiness".

The book chronicles DeVitto's five decades in the music business, starting as a young drummer for Mitch Ryder before spending 30 years on the road and in the studio as a member of Joel's band. DeVitto performed on multiple classic Billy Joel albums such as "The Stranger", "52nd Street" and "Glass Houses".

He has also released a new album "The King's County Classic" with his band The Slim Kings.

DeVitto talked with Dave O'Brien about his years with Billy Joel and his early days, when he went from being in Mith Ryder's band to moving back home to become a plumber. He also shared some details of the never-before-made-public story behind his dismissal from Billy Joel's band and the recent reconciliation between the two.
