If you’re here, it’s safe to assume you know all about and were completely enthralled and consumed by that fated Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello PDA-filled reunion at Coachella back in April 2023.

That said, the Shawnmila reconciliation ended rather quickly, with the duo calling it quits by June of that year. Aside from Camilla coyly addressing it on Call Her Daddy, the two have remained relatively mum about relationship.

So, why are we still talking about it…?

Well, it all started with the August release of Sabrina Carpenter’s latest album, Short n’ Sweet, bringing to the forefront the hot mess express love triangle drama between the three.

Just for a quick summary — Shawn and Camila first began dating in 2019, breaking up in November 2021, though vowing they’d remain friends. Jump to February 2023, when rumors started swirling about Sabrina and Shawn spending time together, and photographic “proof” started surfacing. By March, spending time together turned into “seeing each other,” or so said “sources” at the time. However, by April, the annual month of Coachella, Shawn and Camila were making out all over the festival grounds, so there's that. And as we previously mentioned Shawn and Camila remained together until June 2023, when they once again called it quits. Though they have been spotted hanging out since, but we digress.

So, now that we’re all caught up —

About a year later, after not so much as one word from any of the parties involved, Short n’ Sweet, seemingly addressed it all with multiple songs on the tracklist, like “Coincidence,” “Sharpest Tool,” “Dumb & Poetic,” and “Taste,” that appear to reference Sabrina's short-lived romance with Mr. Mendes.

Though nothing has been confirmed, Sabrina's lyrics alone, plus some comments she made during album press about the project’s title being inspired by “some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had, but the affected me the most,” have said a lot. In addition there's Camila’s slightly shady public response omitting the word “taste” from her recent performance of “Señorita,” as well as awkwardly and hesitantly name-checking Sabrina as a major contributor to the current Girly-Pop Renaissance. Adding Shawn’s latest comments, all together it only further substantiates the speculation that the headline-dominating drama about the trio’s messy love triangle is very much ah-true.

Now on his own album press tour, Shawn is finally being asked about, and FINALLY addressing all of the above. Well kinda (no love triangle inquires were directly addressed).

Speaking about his relationship with Camila on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Shawn said, “I think Camila and I have just done the best job at preserving our private little fire of love for each other. Because no matter how strong mentally you are, when there are millions of people commenting on it, it's so hard not to be affected by it… This is real love, and it’s confusing and hard. I'm just lucky. She is an amazing human being.”

Then on Wednesday night, Shawn surprised his followers by hopping on X, encouraging his fans to “ask me anything,” and replying to a whole bunch of tweets, including ones about Camila.

Needless to say, the whole thing had Shawn’s stans stirred, and only added fuel to the fire about another rekindling with Camila, that had already been sparked by Shawn’s comments on the podcast.

After replying to a fan's response, noting “they don’t play about each other,” to a Pop Crave tweet quoting the podcast interview, which Shawn himself then quote-tweeted to add: “no we don’t,” another fan requested, “I feel like you need to clarify what you meant with your last tweet just so the general public and Camila’s fandom don’t take your words and make them into something you might not have intended, does that make sense?”

And while once again, nothing about the love triangle was directly addressed, Shawn did allude to the recent drama surrounding Sabrina’s album.

“Here we go i can do that,” Shawn’s reply began. “I guess to be honest it came from a place of being a little annoyed with all the projection over the last few months about us. I’m usually pretty good at just watching all the ‘noise’ go by but lately it’s been kinda bugging me 🤷‍♂️ feeling human i guess.”

Shawn continued his thoughts in a follow-up tweet, saying “and yeah part of me knows quoting a tweet and saying that is gunna start a little spin up and i guess to be honest part of me just wanted to address it and actually have a real honest relationship with you guys about how it feels from my side. I also would love to know how it feels for you.”

Then a few tweets later, Mendes added, “it’s pretty intimidating to come online and be honest and vulnerable considering how quickly our words can be twisted and used against us but tbh i really just care about having a real relationship with you guys where i got you and you got me and all the rest is just noise.”
