Matthew McConaughey has milled around the idea of potentially running for governor of Texas, and if the Academy Award winner chooses to do so, chances of a victory seem plausible.

A new survey from Quinnipiac University showed that 42% of Texans had a "favorable" opinion of McConaughey as governor. 20% had an "unfavorable" opinion of him, and 36% haven’t heard enough yet to make a decision.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Senator Ted Cruz says McConaughey would make a "formidable candidate."

He recently said during an interview, "He's a very charming, very affable guy. He's a movie star, and a good-looking, charming, affable movie star can be a really formidable candidate on the ballot. And I hope that doesn't happen, but you know what? He's going to have to make his own decision whether he's going to run or not."

The poll currently shows that 49% of Texans had a "favorable," 43% had an "unfavorable" and 7% had an "unsure" opinion of current governor Greg Abbott.
