Three people are dead and three more are in critical condition in New Mexico after they apparently drank hand sanitizer contaminated with methanol. A seventh person is also permanently blind after ingesting hand sanitizer.
The FDA recently released a list of nine hand sanitizers that contain methanol and can be toxic is absorbed through the skin or ingested. In addition to the list of nine hand sanitizer, the New Mexico Department of Heath says the non-commercially produced or bootleg hand sanitizers could possibly contain methanol as well.
