NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – It may put on the biggest July 4 fireworks show in the country, but New York is at the bottom of a list ranking the “most patriotic” U.S. states.
The Empire State ranked 50 in WalletHub’s list of “2021's Most Patriotic States in America.”
New Jersey and Connecticut weren’t much more patriotic, coming in at 44 and 48, respectively, according to the study.
WalletHub said it compared U.S. states across 13 “key indicators of patriotism,” including military enlistees, veterans, 2020 election voters and AmeriCorps volunteers per capita.
New York had the fewest veterans per capita of any state, followed by New Jersey.
New York also had one of the lowest volunteer rates, coming in at 47.
There was some good news for New Jersey: it topped all states in the percentage of adults who voted in the 2020 presidential election.
According to the study, the “most patriotic” states are Montana (1), Alaska (2) and Maryland (3).
Florida was at the bottom of the pack with New York (50) and New Jersey (48), ranking 49.
