There are a number of products, often sold at gas stations, that claim to prevent hangovers, but for most there is no way of preventing those next day ailments after a night of heavy drinking. However, a new study claims they may have discovered the hangover cure. Researchers in Finland determined amino acid L-cysteine can help relieve ailments such as nausea, headache, stress and anxiety.

The study, done by researchers at the University of Helsinki and the University of Eastern Finland, looked at L-cysteine’s effect on 19 males with a placebo-control group in 1200mg and 600mg doses. The group spent several hours consuming alcohol, and then either took the L-cysteine or the placebo. What the researchers found was the amino acid either reduced or eliminated the hangover symptoms of nausea, headache, stress and anxiety.

L-cysteine is a form of Cysteine that is sometimes used to help treat arthritis and certain lung diseases, along with hardening arteries. Now it appears there is another use for it, as it appears to be the answer to curing a hangover.
