The coronavirus has affected a number of businesses, but the travel industry is one that was possibly hit the hardest by the pandemic. It’s not only the airline companies though, as the businesses that help provide products for air travel are being impacted as well. Now, a company in Texas that proved nuts to American Airlines is sitting on an excess of 42 tons of nuts and isn’t quite sure what to do with them.

With American Airlines no longer buying as many nuts for flights, GNS Foods of Arlington is looking for any way to unload their 87,000 pounds of product. Their supply includes mixed cashews, pistachios, pecans and almonds. Since the pandemic began, they have opened a retail store, and started selling nuts online in hopes of getting rid of some of their massive nut supply.

“We have pallets and pallets of nuts here. We didn’t know how long this was going to last. The airlines were in a state of disarray themselves and they didn’t know if they were going to be bringing them back or not,” said owner of GNS Foods, Kim Peacock. With so many nuts available now people missing air travel can buy a couple bags and feel like they are in first class form home.
