As one of the most beloved movies of all time, 'Back To The Future' is still being discussed even to this day. While many often discuss the movie while ranking their all-time favorites, sometimes the conversation turns to the one major plot hole in the film. Luckily, screenwriter Bob Gale has finally chimed in and settled the debate once and for all.
For years, 'Back To The Future' fans have debated how Marty's parents notice the resemblance between their son and the man that once helped get them together, being they are the same person. Recently, the topic was brought up again in a Twitter debate asking people to list their "5 perfect movies." The debate got heated and even director James Gunn and actor Chris Pratt got involved.
Back to the Future SEEMINGLY could be imperfect (why don't Mom and Dad remember Marty?), but I would still argue it's a perfect film because there are reasons why this could conceivably be the case (time protects itself from unraveling, etc). Or maybe I'm in denial. Who knows.

While Pratt and Gunn gave descriptive reasoning for how Lorraine and George might not recognize the man and their son being identical, but once screenwriter Bob Gale chimed in, the debate was over. "Bear in mind that George and Lorraine only knew Marty/Calvin for eight days when they were 17, and they did not even see him every one of those eight days," said Gale. Just like that, the debate was ended.
