For most alcohol drinkers, stopping after just one drink doesn't seem very enjoyable. Not only is it not enough for most to get intoxicated, but it also doesn't help keep the good times rolling throughout the night. However, according to the new U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans, experts recommend both men and women limit themselves to only one alcoholic beverage a day.

For years, the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans has recommended one drink for women, and two for men per day, but with the guidelines set to be updated for the first time in five years, putting men and women at the same number of drinks is the expected recommendation. Based on a report released Monday, there is no evidence that shows men can have double the amount of alcohol intake as women. "As a nation, our collective health would be better if people generally drank less," said Dr. Timothy Naimi.
According to experts, One drink is equal to one 12-ounce beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine or a shot of liquor. Of course, U.S. health agencies that issue dietary guidelines aren't required to adopt these recommendations. Based on that, it seems plenty of people will continue drinking after their first beverage.
