With YouTube no longer streaming scripted series, one of their biggest shows, ‘Cobra Kai’ has been looking for a new home. Now, the ‘Karate Kid’ spin off has found a destination, as the first two seasons of the show will move over to Netflix, with a new third season coming at a later date.
The spin off series, starring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, was originally picked up for a third season by YouTube, before they changed their business model from a subscription to an ad-supported platform. Now, the surprise hit series from Sony Pictures Television will move to Netflix, with the first two seasons airing later this year, and a new season coming at a yet to be determined date.
"The appeal of the Karate Kid saga is timeless, and Cobra Kai picks up right where it left off without missing a beat. The rivalry between Daniel and Johnny is one for the ages, and the show has a ton of heart and is a lot of fun. We can't wait to introduce a new generation of fans to Cobra," said Vice President of Netflix originals, Brian Wright. Now on Netflix, the Cobra Kai gym lives on.
