With concerts currently on hold, and questions as to when live shows will start up again, many promoters are currently experimenting with ways to bring live events to audiences. During quarantine, many artists have turned to social media in order to perform for fans. This could lead to changes to concerts in the future, as Live Nation will begin testing crowdless shows and drive-in concerts over the summer.

Live Nation, the concert giant, has dealt with the negative effects of quarantine, like many other industries. This week, they reported a 21% drop in revenue for its first quarter, 25% drop in concert and ticket revenue dropping 16%. This led to President and CEO Michael Rapino saying the company would test crowdless broadcasted shows and drive-in concerts, along with reduced capacity festival shows over the summer.

“There are a lot of great artists that can sell out an arena, but they’ll do 10 higher end smaller theaters or clubs. We’re seeing lots of artists chomping to get back out once it’s safe,” said Rapino. While nothing is official yet, major changes could be coming to live music events. For many fans, they are just hoping to get back to seeing live music sooner rather than later.
