With many television shows still on hiatus due to the coronavirus, some have used this time to make adjustments to their upcoming seasons. While some shows have only changed a couple of things, others have used the current pandemic to create entirely new plots for episodes. One of these shows is ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ who announced recently that the upcoming season would tackle the current pandemic.
On Tuesday, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ executive producer Krista Vernoff announced the show would be using the coronavirus in the storyline for the upcoming season. The announcement was made during the Television Academy's panel ‘Quaranstreaming: Comfort TV That Keeps Us Going.’ “There's no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes. We're going to address this pandemic for sure," said Vernoff.
She also claimed that writers for the show are currently working with doctors in order to better understand the current pandemic. “Every year, we have doctors come and tell us their stories, and usually they're telling their worst or their funniest or craziest stories, and this year, it has felt more like therapy," said Vernoff. The 17th season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is expected to premiere later this year.
