Before a product hits the shelves, it usually goes through an intensive vetting process to make sure the consumer won’t have any major complaints. However, Hasbro has been forced to remove a recent toy from shelves after fans complained it promoted inappropriate touching. The ‘Trolls World Tour Giggle and Sing Poppy’ doll included a sound activation button that was placed in between the doll’s legs.
There are plenty of children’s toys that include a sound activation button, but Hasbro is now facing backlash form parents as the placement of the button under the doll’s skirt has been deemed inappropriate. An online petition was started, that calls out retailers for selling a toy that parents suggest is “conditioning our children to think pedophilia is OK." The petition has already gained over 130,000 signatures.
“This feature was designed to react when the doll was seated, but we recognize the placement of the sensor may be perceived as inappropriate. This was not intentional and we are happy to provide consumers with a replacement Poppy doll of similar value through our consumer care team. We are in the process of removing the item for purchase,” said Hasbro spokeswoman, Julie Duffy. The doll has since been removed from shelves.
