The ‘John Wick’ movie franchise has become one of the most recognizable names in action films in recent years. Not only has the film created a resurgence for Keanu Reeves, but has quickly put out multiple sequels since the success of the original ‘John Wick’ in 2014. Now, the film’s co-creator has revealed the film originally had a different title, but changed it after Keanu Reeves kept calling the film ‘John Wick.’
According to ‘John Wick’ co-creator and screenwriter Derek Kolstad, the film was originally titled ‘Scorn,’ but star Keanu Reeves kept referring to the film as ‘John Wick’ in interviews, so the team felt it was necessary to change the title. ““Marketing was like, ‘Dude, that’s four to five million dollars in free advertising so far, so it’s John Wick instead of Scorn‘. I can’t imagine it being Scorn now,” said Kolstad.
Fans were shocked at the revelation, with many believing the film series wouldn’t be as popular if it had a different title. ‘John Wick 4’ is due out in 2022, after being delayed due to the coronavirus. Hopefully by the time they return, Reeves doesn’t decide to title the film something else again.
