The world was given a new Metallica song recently, but it wasn’t created by the actual band. Youtuber Kirt Gibson, aka Funk Turkey, has gone viral after sharing a song in the sound of the iconic metal band titled, ‘Deliverance Rides.’ The parody musician performs the song that had its lyrics and music created by a bot to sound like Metallica.
Kirt Gibson explained in his most recent viral video, by “using lyrics.rip to scrape the Genius Lyrics Database, I made a Markov Chain write Metallica lyrics.” The lyric website he used allows users to enter a band name, and it will create lyrics to a “new” song in the band’s style. The other part was using a Markov Chain, which is “a stochastic model describing a sequence of possible events in which the probability of each event depends only on the state attained in the previous event.”
While the bot created the song, Gibson still had to perform it, as he performs the song singing the lyrics and performing all the instrument parts. While it’s not exactly a new Metallica song, it’s the closest thing fans have to one. Maybe the band could pick up this method in the future to save time.
