Just like astronaut or super hero, professional athlete has always been one of the go to dreams kids have about their future. However, with video games and the popularity of Esports on the rise, more than ever people are dreaming about a future as a professional video game player. In fact, a recent survey revealed that more than half of Americans believe it is more difficult to play video games than contact sports.
With National Video Game day coming up, a recent poll was done on video games to see how Americans feel about the hobby in comparison to just a few years ago. What they found was 56% of the 2,000 people asked said they believe video games should be in the Olympics, with another 56% saying they think it takes more skill to play video games than contact sports.
While playing video games was once considered niche, now 66% of those surveyed identified themselves as a “gamer.” “Many people still think of an average gamer as someone in their 20s, probably unemployed with asocial tendencies. However, we believe this picture is changing along with the games and gaming platforms,” said Artur Plociennik, Regional Publishing Director of World of Warships. It seems video games have officially taken over.
