Not too long ago, a robotic dog created by Boston Dynamics went viral for their creative marketing videos shared on YouTube. While many were enamored by the robot dog named Spot, many wondered what their actual purpose, other than cuteness, would be. Now, it seems Spot has found an avenue for success, as these dogs have been deployed in a Singapore park to promote social distancing.

On Friday, the government in Singapore announced they would deploy the Boston Dynamics robot dog in a local park, in order to warn visitors to remain distanced. The dog will patrol the park and play a pre-recorded message to remind visitors of the importance of social distancing. The dog will also come equipped with a camera, in order for officials to track the number of people in the park.

“These cameras will not be able to track and/or recognize specific individuals, and no personal data will be collected," the government said in a statement. While the robot dog may not be able to detour people from entering the park, it will be there to remind people of the rules. If this works, there could be more robot dogs on patrol very soon.
