Thanks to smartphones and the internet, emoji's have seemingly become a part of everyday conversation. While there are different emoji's to symbolize different objects and feelings, they are usually used in a light manor. However, an apartment complex in Houston recently decided to use emoji's in their eviction notice, and are now being criticized online.
The Steeples Apartments in Houston have gone viral, but not for reasons they wanted, as a resident recently shared the "insensitive" eviction notice she saw on her door. ""So ya'll think it's funny to antagonize the person that's going through financial hardship with putting an emoji, stating, 'Guess who's moving today?' There was nothing funny about that," said resident Sonja Lee. According to Lee, she recently lost her job in March and recently fell behind on rent.
Along with the emoji, the eviction notice read, "Pay your outstanding balance, or release your apartment and turn in your keys to the leasing office by 6:00 pm today. The eviction will be filed promptly Tuesday morning." While rent needs to be paid, the complex could have probably found a better way to handle it, and the internet is letting them know.
