Twenty One Pilot fans were stunned earlier this month when the duo released their latest song, ‘Level of Concern.’ The song, released on April 9th, was the band’s first new single since 2018, and came while many fans were stuck at home due to the coronavirus. Recently, Tyler Joseph discussed the making of the new song, and how two key figures in his life had major influence on the new song.
‘Level of Concern’ wasn’t initially “in the hopper ready to go,” according to Tyler Joseph, but it was his mother’s words while discussing the coronavirus, that inspired Joseph to release the track. “She just said: ‘Man, I could really use an upbeat song to distract me from all this.’ And I guess that speaks to the danceability of the track,” he said.
As for the lyrics, it was Joseph’s wife, and the beginning of their relationship that brought inspiration. “not to compare a pandemic with the uncertainties of a relationship, but in that moment, for someone who maybe isn’t getting, you know, their feelings reciprocated, in their world it does kind of feel like… starting to bubble over and become a little anxious,” said Joseph. Now that ‘Level of Concern’ has been released, hopefully more new music is to come.
